This is a very good book. It does have flaws but they were not significant enough to spoil it for me.
Dorothea was an interesting Lady who had many ups and downs in her life.. and they were very well told in this book.

Having rewritten Dorothea Mackellar's compulsory poem from primary education My Country as a bicentenniary poem in 1988 as Our Country?, I found it fascinating to read this woman's life story. So often school lets us down by failing to create the context and meaning for the author when presenting works for general consumption. There is so much about women that has been suppressed of ignored that helps us develop as more rounded people within ourselves. In some ways it is surprising that I did not come across this book much sooner, as I also ran a women's writing festival in November 1987. But living among the living does not always present opportunities for reconnecting with those from the past. A time comes when you slow down in of sphere to be able to regroup resources from others. I have taken some notes, but still have not had time to fully process them when I read this volume in 2016. Hopefully not too much longer before I draw those other threads into a new garment of better quality.
Also fascinating to read some of her other poems.
