    FTC Disclaimer BookCrash.com sent me a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review The opinions below are entirely my own I recently read and reviewed Book 1 of the Montebellis Series, and while I didn t hate it, much of the story didn t really resound with me, didn t stick in my mind as I had hoped I went into this second book a little hesitantly but am happy to say I liked this one much better That may be because the parts of Book 1 I really did enjoy were the historica FTC Disclaimer BookCrash.com sent me a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review The opinions below are entirely my own I recently read and reviewed Book 1 of the Montebellis Series, and while I didn t hate it, much of the story didn t really resound with me, didn t stick in my mind as I had hoped I went into this second book a little hesitantly but am happy to say I liked this one much better That may be because the parts of Book 1 I really did enjoy were the historical fiction aspects and Adriana s Secrets really expands upon the Montebellis history that was only mildly hinted at in The Secrets Of The Montebellis While being the second book written in the series, it really acts asof a prequel to the first book Adriana is the great grandmother of Lisa Richards, the main character from the first book In this second book, we learnof the life of Adriana, who was such a mysterious, almost mythical figure in Lisa s life Adriana s story opens in Tangle Creek, Oregon in 1917 so we get to learnabout how the town itself came to be By Chapter 2, the story has backtracked some to 1888 in California but don t worry, it s not confusing to follow The mountain above the town of Tangle Creek unleashes an avalanche that ends up killing both of Adriana s parents Adriana and her sister Ladonna are taken in by the best friends of their parents, but Ladonna clearly wears her grief on the outside, lashing out in angry, violent outbursts The couple fostering Ladonna and her sister are left to feel that Ladonna is just too much to handle, so she is soon sent off to live with a school friend s family Ladonna grows up with a bitter streak a mile wide The two sisters, once so close as little girls, end up growing into two very different kinds of women with very different life paths While Ladonna sees Adriana as having the easy life, marrying into money and all that, she never sees the beating Adriana s heart takes when she is severed from her true love through the conniving trickery of others who oppose the match Instead she is married off to a wealthy, spoiled brat of a man who seems to have no guilt or remorse about his violent outbursts or infidelities The story of the injustices both sisters suffered was really touching and made for a muchengaging read for me than the first book I felt muchfor these characters and the action pace of this book was infinitely better than the first Also, I don t know if it was an intentional inspiration or not, but when reading of the connection between Adriana, Rico and Joren, I couldn t help but feel whispers of Jane Austen s Sense Sensibility there the mirror connection between Marianne, Willoughby and Col Brandon I ended up enjoying this one so muchthan the first book, which ran a little slow for me So, if you had a similar experience with the first of this series, I recommend checking out this second book because the series just gets better

    After reading The Proof and falling in love with Colwell s writing, I was incredibly anxious to read the very next book she came out with, which happened to be Adriana s Secrets I was unaware, however that it was book two to The Secret of Montebellis, you see, I thought that it was the sequel to The Proof So, you could say that I was slightly confused with a lot of the back story, but I did manage to follow it and I did enjoy it.Once again, Colwell pleased me with her characters and the suspen After reading The Proof and falling in love with Colwell s writing, I was incredibly anxious to read the very next book she came out with, which happened to be Adriana s Secrets I was unaware, however that it was book two to The Secret of Montebellis, you see, I thought that it was the sequel to The Proof So, you could say that I was slightly confused with a lot of the back story, but I did manage to follow it and I did enjoy it.Once again, Colwell pleased me with her characters and the suspense of the story Her writing was fabulous and engaged me with every word she wrote and I already can t wait to read the first book I often wonder how many series I ve read backwards.I m fairly certain that they would outnumber the ones that I read in order I did find Adriana s Secrets to be muchemotional than I remember The Proof being and the violence was slightlyBut, I think that it was these two factors that made the book so well written, because Colwell captured the emotion of the characters so perfectly.All in all, I rate Adriana s Secrets 4 out of 5 stars and encourage all fans of The Proof to read it after reading book 1 first I received this book from the author publisher for the purpose of this review All comments and opinions are my own You can read this review, as well as many others, on my blog at
