I'm always on the lookout for fun books for my children to read and this one is a winner First of all the cover is amazing It already makes me feel like I'm part of the world I'm about to enterCalvin and Anna have been best friends as long as they can remember and Perry has been their friend for the past four years They love to explore and finally found the cottage in the woods that Calvin's grandpa told him about They uickly learn that it holds a passage to another world and soon find themselves in Cambria They go back many times to visit and learn about it as well as discover some family secrets Each of them are tested along the way and need to find answers to uestions they each have I liked Calvin Anna and Perry Their friendship seemed realistic They got along for the most part and were supportive of each other They worked together to figure out what was happening and what they should do next There were also great supporting characters I felt like some of them had such a small role yet it felt like they were meant for in the story so I'm hoping we'll see them again in future installments There is a villain as well that's obviously not likable but he adds to the storyI love the pacing of this book There are adventures but they move uickly Sometimes I can get bored with long drawn out descriptions that go on for pages and pages I felt like I got the full experience in a shorter amount of time and maybe I have the attention span of a middle grader I was able to figure out some of the twists but others came as a surprise to meThis is a book of good vs evil friendship adventure magic dragons mystery family and a fun new world to discover There is definitely story to be told and I look forward to visiting Cambria again in the future I received a copy of this book to review My opinion is 100% my ownMel's Shelves

My kids are HUGE Harry Potter fans and are really obsessed right now When I started this book that's immediately who I thought of Harry Potter There are a lot of similarities but there are some differences that make it fun and uniue First we have Calvin a boy who discovers that he has some magical powers which was previously unknown to him Next we have his two best friends one boy and one girl Anna was adopted as a baby is very smart and also discovers that she has a talent for casting spells Perry is of a bumbling type of boy And finally these three discover a secret land Cambria hidden in the woods near their homes where they go to train and develop their powers while encountering many secrets evil and than they bargained for I enjoyed the characters and the relationships they had with one another They got along well and were very supportive of one another yet it didn't come off as being too perfect or forced The adventure was done in a good way too There weren't too many details given so the reader never felt bogged down as sometimes happens in a book where an alternate world is introduced but the setting was described in a way that I never felt lost Events occurred at a good pace they weren't over too uickly nor were they dragged out I feel like that's an important balance for younger readersIt was fun and the ending leaves things open for Any fan of fantasy especially Harry Potter is sure to enjoy this oneI received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I was given a copy of Calvin Sparks and the Crossing to Cambria in exchange for an honest review This was a fun middle grade read Full of magic and strange other worlds The main characters are thirteen and good friends They soon find out that things are not always what they seem The writing style is easy to read and the characters are likable A good good versus evil storyline For some of my Christian followers there is magic through out the story I read it as it was intended as fiction The book has a clear beginning and an end but leaves the reader wanting and I am sure the story will continue I give it four stars I really liked it No swearing which I love see middle grade stories free from so I can recommend for ages nine and up

5 stars I read Calvin Sparks and the Crossing to Cambria and did not want to put it down It reminds me a little of Harry Potter Percy Jackson or Ranger Apprentice type of story It is full of magic adventure dragons Three friends are exploring the woods looking for a magical place They find it Calvin Sparks lives with his mom grandfather His father was killed He is special Anna is special too She is adopted and has overprotective parents who want her to have girl friends Perry is timid than his two friends He is a good friend though Cambria is a different kingdom through magical portals There is a great battle of good versus evil There are six powerful objects that will make the holder immortal Each object brings power and a thirst for powerful Galigore already has two items He has corrupted many to his side His forces killed Calvin's father This is a clean read that anyone can read and enjoy That has lots of action drama discovery trials and making choices They all have to make choices Some of the twists and turns I was expecting others took me by surprise I want to read the next book and see what happens next I was given this ebook to read and in return I agreed to give honest review and be part of Calvin Sparks and the Crossing to Cambria blog tour

About the BookFor years Calvin's grandfather has told him stories about a cabin deep in the woods that holds an amazing secret Then one day Calvin and his two best friends find it Inside they discover than just the world's coolest clubhouse This is The Crossing a magical portal that takes them into another world Soon all three are in Cambria a fantastic world filled with bizarre people wonderful food real magic and even dragons There Calvin learns his family has a secret history and he's swept up in the same dangerous mission hat got his father killed thirteen years agoMy ReviewThe author Rusty Anderson has definitely achieved his mission Not only do I have no doubt that kids will love reading this book but I really enjoyed it too The author builds and tells of a magical world that is fascinating to read about While at times I could guess what was going to happen next I still felt engrossed in the book I love that as he was telling this story he entwined many great lessons about the ability and power of an individual to choose good even when facing great temptations This is a uick read and I think it would be great for those in about 3rd grade and up This book is definitely set up for a seuel

Magical and full of adventure I found it difficult to put down It has it all good and evil dragons folklore I got into the main characters easily; they could be my neighbor's kids Their friendship seemed very organic Sometimes though I uestioned their dialogue Some of their vocabulary seemed like it didn't belong to thirteen year old kidsThe author did a great job of world building I explored the woods right along with the kidsThis was a very good book but it could be a great book It has great potential and at least three books in the series I can easily see this becoming a movieHowever I was a little disappointed in the editing but I may have been given an ARC I found the number of repetitive phrases throughout the story distracting The small stuff can be overlooked for the sake of a really good taleNevertheless I know my grandkids will love reading this bookAs reviewed on The Stubby Pencil Reviews at
