35 stars About the book Release Date November 7 2014When Maggie Hanlon's father Ken is diagnosed with Alzheimer's the family dynamics are forever changed As Maggie and her sisters agonize over how best to care for their father Maggie makes the ultimate sacrifice to remain at home and care for Daddy Painful as it is she breaks off her relationship with Gage Stewart to continue her role as the dutiful daughter Just when she's got everything figured out a letter from her father changes everything••••••••REVIEW 35 stars MY DEAREST MAGGIE is the first installment in Tessa Gray’s adult contemporary romance series focusing on the Hanlon Family and their father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis This is nurse Maggie Hanlon and Gage Stewart’s storyline At the beginning of the story Ken Hanlon struggles as he must write a letter to each of his daughters in an effort to let them know about his love and dreams for their future before the Alzheimer’s disease begins to eat away at the memories he has leftTold from several third person perspectives MY DEAREST MAGGIE follows Maggie as she endeavors to take care of her father Ken Hanlon three years after his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease As the symptoms progressively get worse our heroine finds herself in the minority when the family considers moving their father out of the home and into some place capable of handling his worsening disease Enter Gage Stewart a family friend whose return home if only temporarily finds our heroine in a building relationship with a man whose own family struggles are different but the sameThe relationship between Gage and Maggie is slow to build as Maggie continues to give off mixed signals the push and pull is a side effect of Maggie’s own struggles with her father’s disease and her need to stay close and be on call at all times The romance is sweet; Maggie’s ‘mixed signals’ were uncomfortable at times; the ex scenes are mostly implied without any of the over the top graphic imagery or textWe are introduced to all of the Hanlon sisters whose own struggles with their father’s disease is as varied as the different lives each of the lead While Maggie remains in the family home to care for their ailing father the other daughters battle their guilt and the knowledge that not everything will remain the sameMY DEAREST MAGGIE is a sweet storyline about romance and love; loss and heartbreak; family and support Unless we have endured or struggled in a similar situation most of us will never know the physical emotional and psychological ramifications of a family member’s decent into Alzheimer’s madness and memory loss MY DEAREST MAGGIE barely skims the surface of one family’s battle with the disease but the pain of their struggle and loss makes for a different type of romantic storylineCopy supplied for an honest review

This is a moving story about a family dealing with the father's diagnosis of Alzheimer's At the beginning of the book the father sits down shortly after the diagnosis and writes letters to his four daughters The idea is for his wife to give the letters to their daughters at some point in the future that she deems appropriate This book is the first in the series with each book focusing on a different daughterMaggie is the youngest daughter a nurse and she is living with her parents to help her mom take care of her dad She loves the house and the town she grew up in and vows to never leave Enter Gage Stewart a young man she vaguely remembers from her younger days He's a big city guy with a big city job but he's back in town temporarily to help his parents who are trying to save their store Gage befriends Maggie when he delivers some groceries to the house They begin spending time together but with so many differences between them neither really sees the relationship as a long term situation Will they be able to come to terms with their growing affection for one another? And will Maggie ever be able to leave her parents' home and focus on her own life?Though I did have a problem with some of the overused phrases and terms I enjoyed this story and look forward to the others in the series
