I think it must seem like since I’m in this “Book Challenge” now that I pick short and uick “fluff” to read just to keep the number of books read steadily rising But the truth is I have always loved these types of books Not some sort of love romance happily ever after book although I see nothing wrong with one’s choice to choose those books to read either But I love the British authors and their books of WWII on the British or European home frontThe way they handle the Blitz of London and other cities in that magically beautiful country is enviable as well as inspiring The so called British “stiff upper lip” and the valiant way they soldier on under the most stressful and frightening circumstances with everyone “doing their bit” always reassures me that great people from great countries CAN be resilient and brave during oppressionThis is a lovely book in that same genre I actually prefer that the books be in seuels dealing with the same characters throughout 1939 1945 like my favorite author Ellie Dean’s work The Cliffehaven Series However stand alone books like this one from Beryl Matthews are still inspiringOf course they aren’t for everybody But for those who like that genre without having to dive deeper in like with “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” or “Lilac Girls” which by the way I LOVE those novels too then these shorter less complicated ones are ideal just for escapism Sorry 😐 this review is so long
